SAVE THE SKYE FERRY - OPPOSE THE SUPER PYLONS

SAVE THE SKYE FERRY - OPPOSE THE SUPER PYLONS
The Issue
The wonderful and unique historic crossing of the original Skye ferry is under threat.
Scottish Ministers are currently considering the siting of 15 SSEN super pylons on the Skye side of the ferry crossing.
This unnecessary and unforgivable blight on the remote, unspoiled landscape, where the mainland and Skye are closest will undoubtedly affect the sustainability of the ferry operation.
The existing pylon route is another option for SSEN that has NO EFFECT on the ferry or local communities.
There has been a ferry crossing here for hundreds of years and a car ferry since the 1930s. In fact the crossing point is where Skye and the mainland are closest and forms part of an ancient drover's route from the Outer Hebrides to central Scotland. This place is living heritage and the ferry that plies this route now is the MV Glenachulish, the last of her kind in existence.
There is nowhere else like this in the world. It has to be protected from massive and unnecessary development of this kind.
The Isle of Skye Ferry Community Interest Company was formed in 2007 for the benefit of the local community. It employs !0% of the local working age population and provides subsidised travel for local residents. However, it hsa built up a global following, attracting over 35,000 passengers each season between April and October. These visitors, who come to use the ferry support other local businesses and the employment they provide.
Massive industrial construction of the sort required for these pylons would mean a significant reduction in numbers of visitors, who come for the tranquil, remote and historic nature of the crossing. If numbers of people using the ferry drops sharply, the company will not be able to continue operating. It will not be able to make enough money to sustain the employment it provides and to continue the restoration and preservation of the ferry itself.
PLEASE, PLEASE make your voice of support for the ferry heard and force SSEN and the Scottish Ministers to choose the existing route.
The future of the Glenelg-Skye Ferry is in your hands.
