MEMORANDUM / PETITION

Date: May...., 2026

To,

The Commissioner,

Kumaon Division,

Nainital, Uttarakhand.

Subject:Strong Objection Against the Proposed Allotment of St. Joseph’s College Boat House to the Nainital Aquatic Sports Association (NASA)

Respected Sir,

We, the undersigned (Old Boys) of St. Joseph’s College, Nainital, are writing to you with a sense of deep concern and grave urgency regarding a recent development that threatens both the environmental sanctity of Nainital Lake and the heritage property of our alma mater.

It has come to our attention that the Nainital Aquatic Sports Association (NASA) has approached the Government of Uttarakhand, requesting the allotment of the St. Joseph’s College Boat House to their organization for the purpose of conducting swimming and related aquatic activities.

On behalf of the entire alumni community and well-wishers of St. Joseph’s College, we formally register our **strongest objection** to this unjust move based on the following critical grounds:

1. Violation of Judicial Orders:

The Honorable High Court of Uttarakhand has placed a strict ban on swimming and related recreational aquatic activities in Nainital Lake to preserve its fragile ecosystem and ensure public safety. Granting permission or allotting a facility for swimming activities directly contradicts and undermines the standing directives of the Honorable High Court.

2. Encroachment on Heritage School Property:

The Boat House is an integral, historic, and legally held property of St. Joseph’s College. It has served generations of students and represents a legacy of institutional excellence in Nainital. The pressure tactics being deployed by NASA to forcefully grab and repurpose institutional property are highly unethical, humiliating, and entirely unacceptable.

3. Protection of Educational Legacy:

Educational institutions in Nainital must be protected from external commercial or organizational overreach. Allowing a private or outside association to take over school property sets a dangerous precedent that compromises the security and infrastructure dedicated to the student community.

               Our Prayer

In light of the above facts, we earnestly request your office to:

Reject outright any application or proposal made by NASA regarding the allotment or transfer of the St. Joseph's College Boat House.

Ensure the protection of the school’s property from external coercion and unauthorized takeovers.

Uphold the directives of the Honorable High Court concerning the restriction of activities in Nainital Lake.

Please be advised that while we have full faith in your administration's commitment to justice and heritage preservation, the alumni community is fully prepared to seek legal recourse and approach the judiciary to safeguard our school property if this unjust move is pursued any further.

Thank you for your time, consideration, and prompt intervention in this matter.

Yours faithfully,

The Old Boys of St. Joseph’s College, Nainital
