I am asking for your support, not just as the coordinator of the Scriptwriting Graduate Certificate Program at Algonquin College, but also as someone who passionately believes in its potential and the success it brings to its graduates. However, this dynamic, unique program (the only one of its kind in Canada) is at risk of being cut by the college board as a 'cost saving' measure that includes 36 other programs. This program nurtures talents and greatly contributes to the enrichment of Canadian TV, films, games and theatre. Our graduates have achieved huge successes in their respective fields and displayed exceptional skills and capabilities, proving the program's worthiness.

It is critical to consider the impact that such a decision would have on current students, prospective enrollees, and essentially, the Canadian film and media industry. We believe that discontinuing this program undercuts the promising future of scriptwriting in our country. We encourage the college board to revisit this decision and consider the value this program brings, not just to the students, but also to our local arts community and the wider cultural landscape.
