The Science Centre is a huge part of a lot of people's childhoods - past and present. It's a symbol of a much more hopeful past, when people were optimistic about the future. If you've ever been inside it, it's obvious that it's something we would NEVER see built today. No one seriously believes either side of Ford's lie - that either a new Centre, or anything resembling "affordable housing", will ever be built in its place.
So here are some options:
1. Sign and share existing petitions: There are currently at least two petitions circulating on change.org that you can sign. This one, and another called "Don't move the Ontario Science Centre to Ontario Place," Signing (and SHARING!) these petitions can help show how many people care about this issue. If enough people sign, it might get news coverage.
2. Contact your local politicians: Local politicians (especially those running for mayor!) will definitely care about what their constituents think. You can find their contact information on this petition, along with an email template.
3. Contact your Member of Parliament: If you're a Canadian citizen, you can also contact your Member of Parliament to voice your concerns. The links are also available at the end of our petition.
4. Get in Doug's voicemail - 416-325-1941. Leave a message to his (kind) staffers. Do it hourly, daily, weekly - whatever works.
We're all tired of watching this government erode away our standard of living - cuts to healthcare, education, bulldozing over the greenbelt, and now having it done to places that represent our memories and heritage.
Ford DOES give in to public pressure. Acting like nothing has ever changed his decisions is false - we've all seen him fold faster than most politicians, but it does require hope and stamina rather than apathy.
Thank you again for your support!
