Save the SCET program!

The Issue

The Self Contained Enrichment for the Talented (SCET) program is valuable and should continue to serve academically talented students in West Aurora School District 129.

For the last 15 years, West Aurora School District 129 has invited the top 30 students in the district to enter this program.    Students travel in a self contained cohort designed to provide an environment of challenge and opportunity for these students who have their own unique set of challenges.

Did you know that academically gifted and talented students are more likely to drop out of school?   Many of these kids are twice exceptional and also have ADHD, Autism, and Anxiety.   These children need additional support to meet their full potential.

The children who enter this program are incredibly diverse and represent every corner of our amazing community.

This program was started for a reason to meet the unique needs of these students, and should be continued.   Many parents have asked why this program is being cancelled, and we have not been provided with an answer that makes sense.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 17 at 6:00 PM
at the SD129 Administration Office located at 1877 W. Downer Pl. if you are interested in asking why this valuable program is being cancelled.

As we continue to recover from the negative academic and social effects of the pandemic, our district should be adding more programs to reach students where they are at, not cutting programs!
