Save the SBSJ School Bus, Protect our Children's Safety & Education
The Issue
The proposed scrapping of the dedicated bus service to St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College by Bradford Council poses serious risks to our children's safety and education.
Students, parents, school staff, and local residents will be impacted by the scrapping of the dedicated bus service
Key concerns:
Safeguarding Concerns: Vulnerability of younger students: Increased risk of accidents and incidents, particularly in low-light conditions and winter months.
Increased road traffic and potential accidents: More children walking or cycling to school, especially on busy roads like Manningham Lane.
Logistics of alternative transport: Many parents will find this difficult, potentially incurring additional costs.
Disruption to school and academic performance: Late arrivals and poor attendance negatively impact learning.
Impact on Catholic faith: Limited options for Catholic secondary education, reducing the viability of secondary Catholic education in Bradford.
Overcrowding on public buses: Disruption for commuters and students alike.
Mental Health Impacts: Increased stress and anxiety for students, as consequence of longer and more challenging travel. Earlier wake-up times or later bedtimes due to longer commutes can negatively impact sleep quality, affecting concentration and mood.
Increasing barriers to Education: Making it more difficult for students to attend school regularly, particularly for those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Without the dedicated bus service, many students will need to take two buses, adding up to an hour and a half of travel time before and after school.
This isn't a free bus service, many parents pay to use this service and not all schools are having their bus services stopped.
Bradford Council's proposal to scrap the dedicated bus service to St Bede's and St Joseph's Catholic College threatens the safety and education of hundreds of students.
We strongly encourage you to sign the petition and reach out to your local MPs, councillors, and Bradford Council to urge them to reconsider the proposed removal of the bus service as part of their budget cuts.
This decision will affect whether the potential service removal is included in the upcoming public consultation on budget cuts. Reversing this harmful decision is vital for our children's future
