After 135 days of unanswered questions, tonight is when the Roosevelt Island community gets answers.

At 6:00 PM, representatives of HPD, DOB, RIOC, and DEC will face the public for the first time since demolition of the Steam Plant began—without publicly released structural reports, environmental data, or safety plans.

     This is our moment.

What We Still Haven’t Been Shown

  • A structural engineering report justifying “emergency” demolition
  • Results of asbestos, lead, and other pollutants environmental testing
  • A clear air monitoring and safety plan
  • A feasibility study for adaptive reuse

At the same time, demolition continues—and thousands of trucks will move debris past our homes and in front of PS/IS 217, the kindergartens, and through the only street on the Island.

     Why Tonight Matters

For projects like the Cornell Tech development on Roosevelt Island, demolition followed environmental review, public process, and documented safety planning.

We are asking for the same transparency and public engagement here.

Be There. Ask Questions. Demand Answers.

     The Bottom Line

This is not about speculation.
It’s about the absence of information where it matters most.

If this demolition is safe and necessary, the City should be able to show the data.

Stop the demolition. Release the reports. Let the public be heard.

See you tonight.
