SAVE THE RECYCLING SYSTEM – CHANGE THE GREEN DOT!

The Issue

The Green Dot doesn't mean recycle, recyclable or recycled. The symbol was created to show consumers that the manufacturer of the product contributes to the cost of recovery of waste in Europe.

It is confused with the recycle symbol and can be on products that are not recyclable. It is used by over 150,000 companies worldwide and printed on over 400 billion packages every year.

This leads to recycling contamination, which devalues the recycling system. Making it cheaper and more 'convenient' for plastic producers to go with virgin materials made from crude oil.

While trying to help the recycling system, PRO Europe unknowingly created one of the biggest problems that faces recycling and circularity today.

Enough is enough. Change the symbol. Change the system.
