Thanks to your incredible support, the Ray Kappe-designed Stoner Residence has been granted a temporary pause in the demolition process while additional analysis is conducted. Your voices are making a difference—let’s keep the public comments to the Zoning Administrator coming!
At the recent City of Long Beach Zoning Administrator hearing, city staff recommended continuing the item to allow for additional analysis, as requested by members of the public. The architect of the proposed replacement project, Ryan McDaniel of Brandon Architects, attended the hearing and voiced support for the continuance.
This moment happened because of YOU. Your signatures, comments, and advocacy have made a real impact. So far, the Zoning Administrator has received 18 public comments on this issue and the petition has surpassed 1,500 supporters, highlighting how much this home means to the Long Beach community and the broader architectural world.
While the next hearing date has yet to be determined, your voices have ensured that this iconic piece of Long Beach's architectural heritage will receive further consideration. We are hopeful for a full evaluation to determine its eligibility as a historic resource. As part of this process, identifying the character-defining features will be crucial in developing a rehabilitation alternative that aligns with the goals of both the owners and the community.
Keep sharing, keep spreading the word, and stay tuned for updates. Together, we can save the Stoner Residence!
You did this! ✨
