Save The Property

The Issue

In the year 1966 Rabbi Chaim Binyamini founded Yeshiva Colegial Machane Yisroel in Petropolis, Brazil. At the behest of the Lubavitcher Rebbe Shlita the Yeshiva is named after the founder of chassidus Rabbi Yisroel Bal Shem Tov. The Yeshiva was renowned far and wide. The Yeshiva attracted students from all over the world. Many of today’s rabbis and community leaders in Brazil have studied in this yeshiva. When his efforts in establishing a yeshiva were mocked and discouraged by the local community, his wife wrote the Rebbe a letter detailing their despair. In a fascinating response, the Rebbe wrote to them that because they are fighting the forces of assimilation, the negative forces are making a commotion in order to frighten you.

In November 2021 Rabbi Binyamini passed away at the ripe old age of 99. The Yeshiva ceased functioning a few years before he passed away. Currently there is no yeshiva active in Petropolis. The grounds are falling in disrepair. After coronavirus the property is attracting homeless people who have entered the property and built homes.
The nearby Jewish community of Rio De Janeiro is growing and has the need of a yeshiva. The board of Yeshiva  Colegial Machane Yisroel  proposed to sell the property and open a yeshiva with the same name in Rio De Janeiro. The property is devaluating daily at an alarming rate due to the slums the homeless have built on the grounds.
There is one person who is holding back the sale of the property. We request Rav Adi Binyamini to approve the sale of the property for his benefit and the benefit of the children of the community who need a place to study.
