Hi your three Labour ward councillors for East Barnet - Philip Cohen, Simon Radford and Edith David - together with Dan Tomlinson, Labour's candidate for Chipping Barnet in the general election, are right behind the campaign to save the much-loved pub. The power of the community is being expressed loud and clear! We have worked closely with the East Barnet Residents Association, which has done a brilliant job of supporting the campaign, and is very near to submitting an application to Barnet Council to have the Prince of Wales listed as an asset of community value (ACV). This means there would be a period of six months for any interest group or company to make a bid for the property, although the owner is not obliged to sell to them. It also makes it harder to develop the site for other uses. Of course because the owners have been so secretive we don't know if the pub has been sold and to whom. But that should not stop us preserving the Prince of Wales as a focal point for the community. We will confirm to you when the ACV application has been submitted and then there should be a hearing to consider it. Thanks again.
