Save The People, Fix the Intersection

The Issue

There has been 47 accidents in just under 2 years at the intersection of K-26 and Old U-166 Highway near Baxter Springs, KS. This intersection used to be a 4-way stop, but was changed to a 2-way stop. On January 21st, 2025, someone’s life was tragically lost in an accident at that same intersection. 47 accidents, 1 person killed. None of us wanted this unnecessary roadwork when it all began about 2 years ago, and yet, we are the ones suffering the consequences of KDOT’s actions. We can’t wait for more tragedies to occur, we have to stand for change now. We are demanding that this intersection be turned back into a 4-way stop, or a roundabout. Accidents are always bound to happen, but an accident at 15 mph is very different from an accident at 60+ mph.

This petition will be presented to the Secretary of Transportation, Calvin Reed. Calvin Reed has the power to change Kansas Highways. Calvin Reed will hear our voice. When we have reached the targeted amount of signatures, they will have no choice but to listen. WE can enforce this change. After all, it is our lives, our friends, and family’s lives, that are affected by this.

Calvin Reed’s email is Calvin.Reed@ks.gov

Remind Calvin that he has two choices. A stop sign, or a roundabout. Doing nothing is not an option for KDOT anymore.
