The Issue

Hi friends,

We want to share the heartfelt story of a little 18-20 lb orphaned bear cub who desperately needs our help. This time of year, she should be weighing around 150 lbs, but instead, she's wandering the top of Westwood Plateau in Coquitlum on her own. Since losing her mom, this poor cub has been "monitored" by the Conservation Officers in Coquitlum since September, but monitoring is simply not enough. She needs saving.

Critter Care Wildlife Society, known for its compassionate and effective wildlife rehabilitation programs, is very willing to take her in and provide the necessary care and nurturing environment she desperately needs to survive. However, we need immediate action from the authorities to facilitate this transition to a safe haven before it's too late.

It's alarming and heartbreaking that our province seems to have a history of neglecting the welfare of orphaned cubs, as seen almost two years ago with the Comox cub. Despite pleas for help, the Comox cub met a tragic end, shot down without mercy while a rehab center stood ready to offer sanctuary.

We cannot let history repeat itself. It's crucial that we raise our voices and demand immediate action. By writing letters, calling the RAPP LINE when sightings occur, and spreading awareness, we can urge the relevant departments to initiate the rescue and rehabilitation of this little cub.

The community's concern and proactive steps can prevent another preventable tragedy. We have already witnessed the untimely and unnecessary demise of the Comox cub and now, with Ellie, we have a chance to make things right. Let's come together to send a strong message to the provincial authorities – this cub deserves a chance at survival in the safe care of a rehabilitation center.

Please join our compassionate community in this effort to secure a better future for this helpless orphaned cub. Every signature brings us one step closer to ensuring she receives the life-saving help she so desperately needs. Sign this petition and be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
