URGENT UPDATE - NULLARBOR Western 'Green' Energy Hub referred to EPA
Comment period closes 17 November
This week the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) Western Australia announced the Section 38 Referral for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the Western Green Energy Hub proposal.
If allowed to go ahead, the Western Green Energy Hub will have serious environmental consequences for the world’s largest arid limestone karst system which has proven World Heritage values, particularly its caves and cultural heritage.
The EPA invites public comments through its consultation hub on whether the EPA should assess the proposal and, if so, the level of assessment.
The level of assessment is critical. It is imperative that the project is assessed at the highest level of public transparency and consultation. The highest level of assessment is that of ‘Public Environmental Review (PER)’.
See point 4. below for how to register with the EPA process and have your say.
The seven-day comment period (to determine the level of assessment) on this referral closes Sunday 17 Nov 2024.
