Goodwill has asked the West End Opportunity Partnership to Buy NIA for them despite having their own money!
Quick Background: The WEOP has been outed! The Goodwill is requesting that the WEOP purchase the Nia center for $2.1 million dollars. The Goodwill is dedicating $500,000 to demo the building, and are using out-of-state developers to fund the $21 million dollars needed to rebuild an "opportunity village" which will essentially be another transitional housing model with 76 proposed units. The plans for purchase and its subsequent use has been kept away from the tenants of the Nia Center, as well as the community as a whole. There will be a special WEOP board meeting today to vote on this proposal.
What we need from you: Contact your neighborhood representative on the WEOP board and tell them to vote NO on the Goodwill proposal. Find your representative here. We have confirmed/assumed NO votes from Tammy Hawkins, Mike Neagle, and Lyndon Pryor. We need to contact each of these board members.

I have attached a handout that summarizes the points we compiled, and can be used as suggested language when reaching out to board members. We also encourage you to share this information with your neighbors, friends, and others who have a stake in this deal.
Next Steps: Attend the WEOP virtual meeting June 12, at 7:30PM. Pre-register for the Zoom link. (Please note, I was unable to access the form.) Here is a link to the watch party. There will be a WEOP Teach-in at 6:30P-7:15P and the WEOP Board Meeting at 7:30P- 9:00P.
