We call on the City of Newcastle to retain the open-air change rooms. Council's Newcastle Ocean Baths Stage Two Consultation Report, February 2025, confirms the community’s priority to retain the rustic, communal and inclusive open-air change facilities that enhance the ocean beach bathing experience. They should now be considered non-negotiable. Retention of the open-air change rooms includes the provision of individual cubicles to meet any privacy needs, in line with contemporary expectations. Open-air change rooms provide 
•     Protection from air borne pathogens supported by medical experts.
•     Mental health benefits and healthy socialisation.
•     Maintenance and cleaning benefits
•     Cost and environmental benefits since there is no need for expensive, mechanical ventilation and extensive periods of artificial lighting.
