RE: Proposed Myalup Primary Industries Reserve (MPIR) Horticultural Expansion

www.dpird.wa.gov.au/businesses/plant-and-crop-farming/horticulture/myalup-primary-industries-reserve/

This proposal is an initiative that investigates the potential to develop up to 1,500 hectares of new land for high-value horticulture in the Shire of Harvey within the next 5 to 20 years.

This ‘new land’ is our pine forest !!

We are residents in Thornton Drive, who became aware of this proposal on Thur 7 Aug 25. The Councillors of the Shire of Harvey will be hearing our questions and concerns at their council meeting  held at 5pm on Tues 19th Aug 25 at the Harvey Council Chamber on Uduc Rd in Harvey.  They will then be receiving a presentation by Dpird on this matter in a closed forum at the next council meeting on Tues 26 Aug 25.

We are calling on all our neighbours, residents and recreational users wide and far to support us in our challenge to have this proposal quashed.

As a community we have a spokesperson supported by a delegation of residents to submit our petition to the Council meeting on Tues 19th Aug 25, requesting they object to the proposal!

We the community have not been consulted about how this will impact our lives, health and property values, and other stakeholders  ie: EPA, 10thLight Horse, Recreational users of the forest have also not been consulted.

Although we are concerned for more reasons than that alone, we have natural pockets of native bush throughout the pines along with endangered species of carnaby’s that reside in this safe corridor, along with brush tail phascogale’s, goannas, frogs, echidnas, emus and many more critters.

If you wish to object to this proposal, we believe it would be of great benefit if you would sign the petition that will be presented to Council. The more support we get  it would be greatly appreciated.

Other avenues for objection are:

Go to the DPIRD link as noted above and provide your opinions using the ‘share your feedback’ link.

Contact your local Councillor and talk to them or email them.

Email all Shire of Harvey Councillors at:   councillors@harvey.wa.gov.au

Email the Shire of Harvey office at:  contactus@harvey.wa.gov.au

Attend the Council meeting on 19th Aug 2025 to show your support for our spokesperson

Let’s hope our voices will be heard and we are able to influence our Councillors to quash this proposal.
