Save the Lynn Mountain Crosses

Save the Lynn Mountain Crosses
The Issue
As many people know, there has been an organization called "Freedom From Religion Foundation" try to tell our town we need to take the crosses on Lynn Mountain down. Those crosses have been there for over 70 years and all the sudden some group from Wisconsin wants them to be removed.? I don't think so. My grandfather, Ralph Bowers, was one of the original young men in a Sunday school class from First Freewill Baptist Church that made those crosses and placed them where they are now shown for many to see today. Those boys went through a lot to get those crosses up, including legal challenges from many different organizations. Some viewed it as destruction of property but in the end justice prevailed and the crosses stood. It is just second nature for us to look up and see those crosses on Lynn Mountain today because as long as most of us have been alive they have been there as a representation of the people in this town and what we view as right. I take a great amount of pride in knowing that my own grandfather was one of the brave young men that wanted to express their faith in such a way that they never knew it would become what it is today. That is also why I take such offense to see history repeat itself with a group called "Freedom From Religion Foundation" try and come into our small hometown and take this history away from us. As citizens and most importantly Christians, we can not let this stand. We must not let this go any further. It must stop here. I don't know what the best solution legally would be but I do know what the right solution is morally. There comes a time that we can't just take a backseat and let things handle themselves. People need to be vocal about this. It would be a crying shame to see all that those boys went through and all that this town values to go to waste because some organization out of nowhere came in and tried to threaten us.
