Save the Los Robles Hospital Pediatric Unit

Save the Los Robles Hospital Pediatric Unit
The Issue
The Los Robles Hospital Pediatric Unit has long been a beacon of health and hope for countless families in the Conejo Valley. The medical team and care given at this facility have played a large role in making the city of Thousand Oaks one of the safest and most desirable places to live in Southern California. Just last week the Hospital made the announcement that they would close this department to make room for more adult services this coming July.
Should it close, the city will lose more than just a hospital unit; it will lose a critical support system for the kids and families in this community. With the time it takes to process a transfer to another facility, adding in LA traffic, this closure would increase the risk of complications for what could have been straight forward cases. Additionally, the potential influx of patients to other hospitals in the LA area could overwhelm their systems, leading to a decline in the quality of care and longer waiting times for everyone involved.
The closure is not merely about shuttering a facility - it is about compromising the health and safety of our youngest and most vulnerable population. The effects are far reaching and the stakes are incredibly high.
Therefore, we urge Thousand Oaks city council to call upon HCA and Los Robles Hospital leadership for a public hearing so concerned families and physicians can express what this closure will mean for this community and propose alternative solutions.
Together, we can continue the legacy of the Los Robles Pediatric Unit and ensure that our children receive the best care possible, right in their local area.
