Important progress for Scotland’s data centre campaign

We have some important and very welcome news to share!
This week, the Scottish Parliament backed a motion calling for no planning or consenting decisions on hyperscale data centre applications to be made until new national planning guidance has been completed. That guidance is expected to be published within 12 months.
The motion also calls for robust environmental assessments and for the new guidance to address the spatial, community and social impacts of these developments.
This is significant progress for communities like ours, and could have important implications for the proposed Southside Data Centre in the Lammermuirs.
However, our work is not over. The Southside proposal has not disappeared, and its environmental assessment and planning work can continue. We will therefore continue to scrutinise the proposals, raise our concerns and make the case for protecting the Lammermuirs from development on this scale.
