First update:

Hi everyone! Thanks so much to those of you who are supporting my cause, and if you haven't yet, I encourage you to do so because of this very contreversial issue in River Falls, Wisconsin.

Before I begin my post, I encourage you to view both of these websites.

  1. kinniriver.org
  2. twincitiestu.org/kinni.html

The first website is the official website for the dam, and the second is an article to free the kinni. These will be the topic I am discussing today so you will have more background knowledge.

So, on the kinniriver.org website, it is stated that it is a "beautiful, healthy trout stream" located in Western Wisconsin. However, according to fieldandstream.com, an outdoors magazine, 600 Trout were found dead in the river. If that's the numbers in just 13 days, who knows what can happen to not just trout, but to all the fish in the ocean?

You may be wondering, what are some of the other negative effects of dams? One reason is temperature. In the Kinni's case, the river is turning warmer. How does this really effect anyone, you may ask? This causes stress to the fish and can eventually kill them? This will cause polluted waters, and the so-called beautiful Kinni will be nothing but a wasteland.

Another reason to support this cause is because of migration. Fish still need to migrate, believe it or not. A dam blocks of the rivers. How are the fish supposed to move freely to safety when it gets to cold. The fish will die, and naturally the population will decrease in great amounts. Fish also need food, and if their was a shortage of the producers, they would die. Hiding from predators and giving birth are also limited due to a dam. It's like a fish tank, except you only feed the fish once a month. Without these resources, the fish will die or eat each other.

My final reason is one I previously discussed, fish spawning. Dams alter the habitat they depend on to survive. Do you know what a riverbed is? In short terms, it is the bottom of a body of water. Fish spawn their eggs at the bottom of an ocean to stop predators from eating them and to have a safe place. With a dam, sediment is buried by the river, the sediment that fish depend on to spawn. Fish will not be able to give birth, and they will either need the riverbed or to figure out a new place to spawn. I'm hoping for option two, but I doubtlessly know it cannot be.

Thank you for reading my update. Please keep in mind all the information I have presented, and if you aren't sure if you should sign or not, look into the resources I have given you. Please support my case, for the Kinni!
