Save the IB Program at Campbell Collegiate

The campaign to save the IB Program at Campbell Collegiate continues!

Campbell Collegiate in Regina, Saskatchewan has offered the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program for over twenty-five years for students interested in more rigorous academic study.

On Tuesday, February 10, 2015, the Regina Public School Board decided to relocate the IB Program from Campbell Collegiate to Balfour Collegiate. As part of the Regina Public School Board's new High School Strategy, the decision was aimed to 'increase equality in opportunity'.

The debate remerged once again on Thursday, January 14, when Regina Public Schools announced that the IB Program will be permanently discontinued, citing 'lack of interest' and 'high costs'.

We strongly believe that the Regina Public School Board cannot judge the merit of the program based on dollars and cents. Over the past twenty-five years, Campbell's IB Program has gained a reputation nationally, with alumni having attended Ivy League schools and received Rhodes Scholarships. IB students at Campbell Collegiate consistently score above the world average — a true testament to the success of the program.

Over the past six years, student enrolment has increased at Campbell in recognition of the values that the IB Program shares with its students — in particular, the desire to become lifelong learners. The IB is undoubtedly the best enriched program we can offer to students who desire a high quality, challenging, and international education. By offering IB, students develop a skill set and understanding that allows them to not only become contributing members of the local community, but the global community as well. The Regina Public School Board establishes the same need for a sense of community in their mission statement (see http://www.rbe.sk.ca/school-board/mission).

The IB Program is at the heart of our school and community, and we strongly believe that the program should continue to be offered at Campbell Collegiate.

We humbly ask for your support in petitioning the Regina Public School Board to reconsider their decision to remove the IB Program from our school and to allow the thriving and well-established program to provide a rigorous international education for the future generations to come.
