Yesterday, twelve of us gathered at the Village Hotel. After coffee and banter, we took a leisurely stroll along the Clyde on a glorious winter’s day, heading for BBC Radio Scotland HQ at Pacific Quay.
On arrival, we were met by a BBC cameraman who’d been sent to record the event. For what purpose, I’m not entirely sure, as nothing appeared yesterday—unless I missed it. Still, he was a very nice man, as were the two equally pleasant security guards who escorted me the long and perilous 75 yards from the front door to reception.
There, in Victoria’s absence, another helpful BBC soul formally accepted the petition.
So that’s where we stand.
15,582 signatures. Petition with 15582 signatures formally handed in and emailed.
Now we wait for the BBC’s response.
Here’s a short video I put together from some iPhone footage of the day:

If and when I hear back from Victoria Easton-Riley, I’ll let you know straight away.
But for now, the Hesperus has made her final sail—dignified, moving, and true to form. Exactly what we’d expect from the Captain. I’m certain we’ll see and hear from him, and the crew, again in the not-too-distant future.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who signed, shared, commented, and sent messages. As someone wisely said, it’s been a long time since the Scottish music community—and its listeners—felt so united.
All the best for 2026, folks.
