PETITION FINAL UPDATE
Tomorrow at 12 noon I’ll be handing in the Save the Iain Anderson Show petition at BBC HQ, Pacific Quay
I’ve printed everything off — the covering letter, executive summary, listener comments, and press clippings
It feels real now. Solid. Heavy in the hands, in the best possible way.
If anyone fancies coming along, we’ll park and meet at the Village Hotel car park and walk over together. Strength in numbers, even quietly
Most of all, thank you to everyone who signed, shared, commented, and cared
15,000+ names. Thousands of voices. One simple message: this show matters
Whatever happens next, this has been something we can all be proud of
COMPLAINT UPDATE
The BBC has now replied to my initial letter. In summary, they say the late-night schedule changes are based on audience data, feedback and research, and that a new programme, Up Late, will replace the Iain Anderson Show. They’ve also stressed their wider commitment to specialist and Scottish music across the schedule.
However, they have not shared or evidenced any of the audience data or research they are relying on, despite the petition now standing at 15,000+ signatures. They also dismissed the description of the new programme as “easy listening”, even though that phrase appeared in earlier BBC correspondence, which adds to the confusion rather than clearing it up.
Because of this, I’ve formally replied to say that I am not satisfied with their response and have asked for the complaint to be escalated to Stage 1B of the BBC’s complaints process. I’ve asked again for transparency around the data being used and for proper engagement with the specific loss of this programme and this audience.
I’ll keep you updated as the process continues.
Thank you again to everyone who signed, shared, commented, and spoke up — your support remains central to this conversation ❤️🎙️
