Hello supporters of the United Artists Theatre in Berkeley --
We have a couple big announcements!
First and foremost: Tomorrow night Save the UA Berkeley will be giving an online talk about the history of this magnificent and often misunderstood Art Deco movie palace. It's sponsored by Berkeley City Councilmember Sophie Hahn and will be on zoom at 6:30pm tomorrow, Thurs Dec. 14.
The presentation will focus pretty strictly on the history of the theater rather on our efforts to save it from a developer's wrecking ball, but we hope it will help draw attention to our cause nonetheless.

Second, after months of work we finally filed the application to landmark the theater with the city's Landmark Preservation Commission! It's 80 pages and can be found on the Save the UA Berkeley website -- www.savetheuaberkeley.org
A reminder that landmarking the building won't itself stop the housing development that threatens to destroy the UA, but we believe it could help. The landmark application will go before the LPC commissioners at the January or February meeting. STAY TUNED.
Thanks for supporting Save the UA Berkeley and Happy Holidays!
