Since Asbury's surprise announcement last year, that they were considering demolition of the historic Slifer House, a group of very dedicated volunteers has been working to be a partner to save the house of a Civil War hero that was used as a hospital for many years before becoming a museum.  Finally, this Monday, PA At Risk, recognized Slifer on their yearly list and announced it to the responsible parties at Asbury.  Immediately thereafter the reports of Asbury filing for a demolition permit came to our attention.  It was crazy timing, to say the least, that the very same day we provide a strong partner in preservation (they claimed they couldn't afford the costs of maintenance, etc) they would make this move.  We went assume the best about this non-profit organization and their leadership, but have felt they have stonewalled rather than acknowledge our willingness to help.  There's a ton of grant money and other funds that are available now that our preservation efforts are off the ground.  But this requires the cooperation of Asbury, which seems dead set against any kind of joint effort at this point—we're even willing to move the house and yet they want to expedite the demolition.  It's a very weird obsession for a business that is supposedly in the senior living space.  Hopefully they do better for their residents.

So this is a time for action.  The plans we saw show demolition scheduled for 7:30am on Monday (May 18th) so the window for action is closing fast.  A phone call to those on the list below only takes a minute or two of your time.  Don't wait.  Do it now because this is the last chance you'll get to express your displeasure before a local monument is reduced to rubble.  The Save the Slifer House committee needs your help.  We can save this historic treasure if we just have the time to finish the work underway.  Don't sit on the sidelines.  We are now thousands strong and make sure they hear us loud and clear.  We have worked for you behind the scenes, now this is your time to get involved with the effort.  Please call the following numbers and tell them that you want Slifer's legacy to live on:
