The good news is that our local government isn't ready to throw in the towel on Slifer House. This historic landmark is valuable and, under the right management, could be a great asset to the local community. Gross mismanagement and wilful neglect seem to be the real issue.
The bad news is that we don't have a whole lot of cooperation from the current owners. Yes, we talked. But it just doesn't feel like they're really willing to work towards a viable compromise or solution. They claim that it costs them (or rather their residents) 100k a year! This number just is hard to believe, nevertheless that's what they are saying it costs them.
So the good news gives some reason to hope. Nevertheless, there's still a need for ideas and help for finding a way to preserve this treasure for future generations. We're over 2000 people on this petition, which is amazing, imagine what would be possible if we had a plan in place.
