Here we go again...😪

Now we know for certain that the applicant will be going before the Charleston County Board of Zoning Appeals (the BZA) on MONDAY, APRIL 6, 2026 with his variance request to remove the historic grand sand oak at Sol Legare. 😪 This will be the THIRD time this grand tree removal request is on the BZA's meeting agenda. 😪

The County has posted signage (see photo) at the tree giving Public Notice of the hearing that will take place on Monday, April 6th at Charleston County--Council Chambers--2nd floor, 4 p.m., 4045 Bridge View Dr, North Charleston, SC 29405. Please plan to attend and speak publicly if you possibly can!

The public should be receiving more information from the County via email soon. These details will include the timeline for sending in official comments (AGAIN). If you have previously sent in comments, thank you! We need to continue to ask the BZA to DENY the request to cut down this historic, over 200+ year old, HEALTHY grand oak tree. We will be submitting this petition TO SAVE THIS SPECIAL TREE to County staff to provide to the members of the BZA. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR SIGNING. Please encourage your friends and family who live on James Island (or anywhere in Charleston County) to sign also. We are now well over 1,000 signatures and so grateful!

We will continue to keep you updated. Thank you for your support for saving this unique historic tree that has been part of Sol Legare's landscape and culture for over 200 years.
