The Issue

Thirty-six years ago, I had a vision to create a whimsical, fun retreat in my backyard by building a waterslide. With the community’s benefit in mind, I approached the Macomb Park District and sought their permission to construct part of the slide, which gracefully curves onto their property. I was granted the go-ahead and proceeded to build what has now become a beloved neighborhood landmark. For over three decades, this slide has been a pivotal part of our community, a gathering place that transcends generations and brings joy to countless families right here in Macomb.

Recently, the Park District informed me that the slide must be removed by July 20th. Despite having previously received oral permission 36 years ago, my requests for an easement and a release of liability have been met with demands for its removal. This decision would not only bring an end to a piece of personal history but also erase a cherished communal space that has brought us together.

This slide is more than just a piece of backyard entertainment; it represents the spirit of our community and the bonds we have built over years of shared summers. Destroying it would strip away part of our neighborhood’s character and history. It's imperative that we seek a solution that respects this cherished past, such as formalizing the easement agreement that allows this slide to remain in place, preserving a piece of what makes Macomb unique.

Join me in urging the Macomb Park District to reconsider their decision and allow the waterslide to continue being a symbol of joy and unity for our community. Sign this petition to show your support for saving our beloved waterslide.
