Save the Former Possil Railway Station – A Historic Landmark at Risk
The Issue
The former Possil Railway Station, located at 479 Balmore Road in Glasgow, is a Category C listed building dating back to the late 19th century. Built in 1897 by the Lanarkshire & Dunbartonshire Railway, this station once served as a vital link in Glasgow’s rail network. Its distinctive red brickwork, decorative timber gables, and terracotta detailing make it a rare surviving example of railway architecture from that era. Today, the building sits in a state of dangerous neglect... its roof degrading, windows broken, and structure decaying.

Historic Environment Scotland is aware of its condition, but due to its Category C listing, it has limited protection, and no restoration plans currently exist. No one has responded to requests about upkeep, and the site is deteriorating fast.
After my successful campaign to help save the Vogue Cinema in Possilpark (https://www.change.org/p/help-save-the-vogue-cinema-in-possilpark-from-demolition) which gained media attention and over 3,798 signatures, I’m now raising awareness about this equally important piece of Possil‘s story. I believe this building deserves to be seen, discussed, and defended before it’s too late.
What This Petition Calls For:
• For Glasgow City Council to take urgent steps to stabilise and protect the structure
• For heritage groups, railway enthusiasts, and investors to consider options for its reuse
• For anyone who cares about Glasgow’s past to show public support and keep the pressure on
This petition alone won’t restore the building. But it’s the first step in showing that this landmark matters—and that people do care.
Please sign and share to help preserve this unique part of Possil’s architectural and railway history.
