Save the EV Ready Program: Secure a Sustainable Future for British Columbia

The Issue

As a respected member our valued stakeholder group of Owners, Property Management, and local EV industry, we are reaching out to you today to raise awareness about a critical issue that requires our immediate attention. We are deeply concerned about the recent discontinuation of the highly successful CleanBC Go Electric EV Ready Program by the Ministry of Energy, Mines & Low Carbon Innovation. This decision has left us worried about the future of our efforts to combat greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and transition towards a sustainable future.

We want to see the Treasury Board to reinstate funding for this program for the 2024 Provincial Budget.

The EV Ready Program has been instrumental in supporting multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) to adopt an EV ready approach, enabling a seamless transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) while simultaneously saving substantial costs. Numerous studies have shown that this program is a game-changer in reducing GHG emissions and achieving our climate goals.

By discontinuing this program, we risk losing significant progress made towards reducing GHG emissions in British Columbia. The benefits of adopting an EV ready approach are undeniable:

1. Cost Savings: Studies have consistently shown that implementing an EV ready infrastructure results in large cost savings during the transition to Zero Emission Vehicles for any MURB. These savings can be utilized for other important community initiatives or investments.

2. Environmental Impact: Transitioning from conventional vehicles to ZEVs is crucial for combating climate change and improving air quality. The EV Ready Program plays a vital role in accelerating this transition by providing necessary infrastructure support at MURBs across British Columbia.

3. Economic Growth: Supporting programs like the EV Ready Program not only helps reduce GHG emissions but also stimulates economic growth by creating jobs in various sectors such as construction, electrical services, and clean energy technology.

It is disheartening to see such an effective program being discontinued without considering its long-term benefits for our province's sustainability goals. We urge the BC Treasury to reconsider their decision and allocate additional funding towards reinstating and expanding the highly successful EV Ready Program.

By signing this petition, we call upon the BC Treasury to:

1. Reinstate the EV Ready Program immediately to ensure a seamless transition towards zero-emission vehicles in MURBs.
2. Allocate additional funding to expand the program's reach and impact, enabling more buildings across British Columbia to become EV ready.
3. Recognize the long-term benefits of this program in reducing GHG emissions, achieving climate goals, and stimulating economic growth.

Together, let's secure a sustainable future for British Columbia by supporting initiatives that promote clean transportation and combat climate change. Sign this petition today and make your voice heard!
