As you probably have heard, there is a proposal before Riverside County to change part of the Temecula Equestrian District to allow a gas station/ food mart/ car wash and a major winery resort. Here are some details for you about this issue:
(General Plan Amendment 240039)
- It proposes to take 6 parcels (178 gross acres) OUT of the Equestrian District: 3 parcels for Commercial/ Retail use (gas station/ food mart/ car wash) and 3 parcels to put into Winery District (which would allow concerts, big resorts, etc.)
- Commercial Retail would allow everything from gas stations to drive thru's to arcades to professional office buildings. These land uses are NOT appropriate in the Equestrian District, not even appropriate in Wine Country broadly. This is a unique area, not urban or suburban. We want to protect our very special ambiance.
- Wine Country is Riverside County's "Golden Goose"; brings in lots of tourism. Our Equestrian District definitely helps make our Wine Country unique. Tourists love the large, quiet horse ranches and we love our horse-focused livelihoods and equestrian lifestyles.
- In addition to showing up in Riverside on June 25th (9AM), please also send a letter in opposition to the Project Planner Russell Brady at rbrady@rivco.org and ask that it be distributed to all Planning Commissioners and Supervisor Chuck Washington.
Together we can stop this idea!
