The issue

The Boulevard at Ivanhoe East is a unique stretch of road in suburban Melbourne and is much loved by its residents and visitors in its present form. It is loved for its rural character, its vistas, its wildlife including its mob of Kangaroos and its vegetation . The existing road is a key part of this character. Banyule Council are proposing to replace the existing road, which will increase traffic volumes and speeds. We believe it should not be replaced by a modern road which favours cars and destroys that character.

The current layout of The Boulevard puts pedestrians over cars – currently you will see families out walking, children walking with friends, children learning to ride bikes, horses from the pony club, elderly people strolling and locals and visitors generally using The Boulevard as a promenade – this is precisely what urban planners have been trying and failing to achieve all over Melbourne. We currently have a rare situation where this exists and it works beautifully. So, we believe that it should be left as existing, with minor road repairs where they are required.

Please sign this petition to let Banyule council know that you are opposed to this proposal and help us save this boulevard which is unique in Melbourne.
