Rea Road Gillespie Property Rezoning Petition RZP 2022-121
Another NEW HEARING DATE - Monday March 18, 2024 - City Council
Why Is This Contentious Rezoning Hearing Being Postponed Again By The Developer?
Could it be that the developer feels his petition won't be approved by city council?
Could it be that the developer has offered up a few additional perks that he wants to give the community time to consider?
Could it be that councilmember Ed Driggs is desperately seeking compromise and is slowing down the process in hopes of getting both parties together?
18,600+ people have signed a petition against this project. At two (2) public community meetings overflow crowds voiced strong opposition to the rezoning request.
Discussions between the developer and the local community have been going on for over one year.
Yet the developer keeps trying to sell the same old thing that is unwanted by the community.
Developer Russell Ranson - It’s time to STOP POSTPONING and let the Charlotte City Council decide this matter.
Here are just a Few of the Many Reasons Why the RK Investments Charlotte LLC's 640 Unit Apartment Project Rezoning Petition Should Not Be Approved:
- Adds 4,000+ cars per day to already Overcrowded Charlotte streets, one of which is already at 130% of capacity.
- Removes 38 acres of beautiful Tree Canopy from South Charlotte.
- Project is Six (6) Times The Density of the surrounding neighborhood.
- Features over powering Five (5) Story Apartment Buildings towering above a single family residential neighborhood.
- Significantly adds to Area Flooding which is already a major problem.
- Developer has refused to address neighborhood concerns about Local Wildlife.
- Stresses local Area Infrastructure that is already to the breaking point.
- Adds to already troublesome CMS Schools Overcrowding.
- Doesn’t meet Charlotte 2024 UDO goals relative to Affordable Housing.
- Limited if any Tree Save.
- Does nothing in the way of Preserving the Character of our neighborhood.
- Simply Not Wanted by the community.
