Save the Dunmow dog involved in tragic incident
The Issue
Monday 13 April marked a tragic event in Dunmow. A young woman, Jamie-Lea Biscoe, aged just 19, lost her life due to injuries believed to have been inflicted by a dog. The incident occurred at a property on Long Hide, Leaden Roding at 10:45 pm on Friday, 10 April. Despite the valiant efforts of officers and paramedics, Jamie-Lea's life could not be saved. https://www.essex.police.uk/news/essex/news/news/2026/april/dunmow-dog-attack-investigation/
In the aftermath, a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, leading to injuries resulting in death. He has been bailed until July as investigations continue. Meanwhile, the dog involved, a family pet believed to be a Lurcher Cross, has been seized pending further tests to determine her breed. She is a mother, and we want her and her puppies saved.
This situation is undeniably distressing, a heart-wrenching tragedy for the Biscoe family and everyone involved. Now, the future of the dog hangs in the balance, facing the possibility of being put down. This is not just. The fault lies not with the dog itself, but rather with human irresponsibility.
We believe that destroying the dog will not ease the pain or undo the tragedy that has struck Dunmow. Instead, we propose that the dog should be sent to a sanctuary, where it can live peacefully, away from circumstances that could trigger such a devastating incident again. Sanctuaries are equipped to handle animals involved in attacks, ensuring they are in a controlled environment away from the public. This is a compassionate solution that acknowledges what has happened but refuses to escalate the nightmare further.
Moreover, studies widely acknowledge that dogs are capable of rehabilitation. According to many animal behaviour experts, with proper care and conditions, even dogs involved in attacks can be reintegrated safely into a peaceful environment. By choosing to rehouse the dog in a sanctuary, we honour Jamie-Lea's memory, promoting understanding and compassion.
We ask for your support in urging authorities to reconsider the decision to destroy this animal. Instead, let us choose compassion, understanding, and a path that truly reflects our collective empathy.
Sign this petition to call upon local authorities to give this dog a chance at life, ensuring this tragedy does not lead to the loss of two lives.
