We won!

Thank you so much for signing the petition, and for all of your support sharing it and wishing us well!

Saving the Dual Language Program at Riverhead Schools has been an amazing project and journey. It all started because one parent who heard it might be happening spoke up fast to the community. So, the petition was started almost as soon as the district announced the possible cuts.

With the help of clusters of parents, a parent social media group, PTO groups and leaders, and Riverhead RASi -- Oh! and change.org -- we saved the Dual Language Program.

So...here is what the district announced tonight at the 4/16 board meeting:

-The Kindergarteners in all four early elementary schools who are in the program now, will continue next year in Dual Language for first grade. (Note: with only the promise of that one year. So, we still have to apply pressure for the future!)

-At Phillips Avenue Elementary School -- which has always had strong bilingual programs -- they will start a Kindergarten cohort next year. (So, we may want to advocate over the summer to get the Kindergarten cohort in the other three schools????)

Thank you again so much for your support. You helped some wonderful children and their parents. And, you helped our Riverhead community to hang on to a program that will promote cultural understanding and support community harmony.
