Save the Doreen Red Gums

The issue

Vic Roads are planning to cut these stunning old River Red Gums down as part of the Yan Yan rd Stage 2 up grade. They have looked at an alternative route on the western side of Yan Yean rd, but it isn’t their preferred option. The Western side route would allow these stunning old River Red Gums to live on and the Doreen Post Office Est 1895 and store to remain. Doreen has already recently lost the Doreen Hall Est 1908. We are asking Vic Roads to take the western route.

Recently these beautiful Red Gums age was confirmed by local indigenous Wurundjeri people and arborists at 500 and 400 years old, we believe these trees to be some of the oldest Eucalyptus camaldulensis in Victoria.

These trees are well known local land marks. So many of these beautiful gums have been lost recently in this region.

These outstanding gums were here back when this land was cared for by the local indigenous people, when Captain Cook arrived, when the land was farmed for the last 200 years providing shade, a resting place, an absorber of carbon produced over this time and housed many animals over these years.

We need you to share your concern by signing and sharing this petition.

We greatly appreciate your time. Thank you.
