Fairfield has just acquired a small new public park on Southport Harbor we call The Dog Park.  It is a waterfront lot right next to the Lower Wharf park.  It was donated to the Town by Mr. & Mrs. McMahon of 1100 Harbor Road.

The McMahon's are proposing to expand their terrace on their adjacent lot.  They plan to remove all the large, sea-worn boulders that now form an historic and rustic seawall protecting their terrace, some located on the Dog Park and some on their parcel.  They will then install a pre-cast concrete wall surrounding their expanded terrace. They claim they will then replace ALL those protective boulders IN FRONT of the new seawall.

We believe this cannot be done without the boulders spilling further onto the beach property just acquired by the Town, taking up valuable space.

Most importantly, we believe this large construction project will forever degrade the natural beauty of this historic site which will impair the historic integrity of Southport Harbor. The project should be denied by the Historic District Commission. 

We also believe the proposed design conflicts with promises made by the Applicant to Town authorities and the community, and as a result the project should not be allowed to go forward.
