The Issue

NO INSURANCE SHOULD BE PAID THEY WERE WARNED TO SECURE THE SITE NO ACTION WAS TAKEN

For those of us who cherish the rich history of Hastings, the Convent of the Holy Child holds a special place in our hearts. Its presence in our community is a testament to a bygone era, a piece of Hastings history that deserves protection and preservation. Yet, it stands under threat of being lost forever to development. This development is not just a simple matter of construction; it represents the erasure of an invaluable part of our heritage.

The convent, with its historical architecture and cultural significance, tells the story of our community's past. Losing it would mean a loss of identity and history for Hastings, which could and should have been avoided. As residents and lovers of Hastings, we must take action now to protect what is rightfully ours.

The convent is not merely a building; it is a community landmark that represents the spirit and history of Hastings. It has stood for generations as a beacon of tradition, and its walls have witnessed countless stories and lives. Allowing developers to demolish it for new construction would be a shortsighted decision that we could never undo.

We propose an immediate block on any development plans that threaten the convent. Instead, we should recognize its historic significance and work towards restoring and revitalizing it for future generations to appreciate. Investing in its preservation can transform it into a valuable educational center, a museum, or a community space that honors its legacy.

By signing this petition, you join us in sending a strong message to local officials and developers that the Convent of the Holy Child is worth saving. We call for a halt to any development initiatives and urge our community leaders to prioritize heritage conservation. Together, we can ensure that this historical gem is protected and cherished for years to come. Please sign and help us save our history.

Petition to Save the Holy Child Convent, Hastings
We, the undersigned, call on Hastings Borough Council and all relevant decision-makers to protect the Holy Child Convent in Hastings and place an immediate block on any inappropriate development that would threaten this unique historic site.
The Holy Child Convent is an important part of our town's heritage. Its historic buildings, chapel and grounds have significant architectural, cultural and community value. Once lost, they can never be replaced.
We ask that:
No planning permission is granted for development that harms the character, heritage or setting of the convent.
The site is protected while its long-term future is properly assessed.
Restoration and community-focused uses are prioritised over large-scale development.
All future decisions are made transparently, with full consultation of local residents and heritage organisations.
This site deserves preservation, not destruction. Future generations should have the opportunity to appreciate and benefit from this remarkable piece of Hastings' history.
By signing this petition, we ask Hastings Borough Council to safeguard the Holy Child Convent and ensure that any future plans protect its historic importance and serve the interests of the local community.
If there is an active planning application, it's worth including the planning application reference number, as Hastings Borough Council requires this for planning petitions and has specific rules and deadlines for valid planning petitions.

Whatever body replaces/succeeds Hastings Borough Council to protect the convent given the likely local reorganisation in less than two years time?
