The Issue

For years, the annual Christmas tree performance has been a cherished tradition for the students at Bay High School in Bay Village, Ohio. I remember standing amongst my peers on that towering choir tree, the excitement bubbling up as our voices joined together in festive songs. It was more than just a performance; it was a symbol of unity, community, and the joyous spirit that defines our school. Yet, this beloved tradition is now under threat as new regulations limit the number of students on the tree to just 20 from the original 65.

This restriction not only diminishes the grandeur of the performance but also excludes many students from an experience that holds sentimental value for so many of us. The tree cannot shine as brightly with fewer participants, nor can it bring the same joy and inclusivity that 65 voices strong once held.

By reducing the numbers, we dampen the spirits of students eager to contribute to this tradition and miss out on unforgettable memories that build school spirit and camaraderie.

We understand the need for safety and practicality, but there must be a way to uphold tradition while ensuring the safety of our participants. We propose a reevaluation of the tree's structural integrity and any necessary reinforcements to allow it to hold up to 65 members safely. Along with signing a consent form, informing the students and their guardians of possible risks.

We urge the school administration to consider these options. Let's not let this treasured tradition fade away. By signing this petition, you advocate for allowing the Bay High School choir's Christmas tree to shine as brightly as it once did, with the full strength of 65 students singing in harmony.
