The Issue

The Central secretariat library is one of the oldest and most prestigious library in India, established in 1891, this 135-year-old national treasure houses over 8.5 Lakh Books, gazettes, and documents Including Material dating back to 1702 It is in other words a working archive of the Indian state which is accessible to the students, scholars and the general public,

But today, our history is facing an existential threat.
Under the grand Central Vista project, Shastri Bhawan is set for demolition. In a shocking display of bureaucratic absurdity, the Ministry of Housing has allocated a mere two rooms for this massive repository. This insane decision slashes the library’s space by a staggering 94.59% shrinking it from 5,500 square meters to a microscopic 300 square meters.

This is not a relocation; it is a burial.

Reducing CSL to just 5.41% of its size means that lakhs of priceless books will be locked behind bureaucratic bars forever, choked in dust and darkness, completely inaccessible to the students, professors, scholars, researchers and public Even the Ministry of Culture has rejected this ridiculous proposal, recognizing it for what it is: an insult to India’s intellectual heritage. How can a nation building a futuristic capital justify erasing its own past?

Our Demand:
We demand that the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and the Ministry of Culture must allocate an architecturally unified, permanent space of at least 5,500 square meters within the Common Central Secretariat to fully accommodate, honor, and preserve the CSL

Knowledge belongs to the people, not to locked storage rooms. Sign this petition and demand that India's history be kept alive!
