On 23 July, Creative Scotland invited expressions of interest to buy or lease 350 Sauchiehall Street, the home of the former Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA). We are calling for the sale of the building to be stopped and for meaningful public consultation to take place on the future of this nationally significant cultural asset.

The building should remain in public ownership to safeguard its future as an open, publicly accessible, multi-artform cultural venue for generations to come. While Creative Scotland has expressed a preference that the building continues to have a cultural use, there is currently no binding commitment that it will remain in public ownership or continue to operate as an open-access arts centre. The future of 350 Sauchiehall Street should be shaped through transparency, meaningful public consultation and collaboration with the artists, cultural workers, communities and audiences who have made it such an important public space for more than fifty years.

The Third Eye Centre, and later the Centre for Contemporary Arts, have played an extraordinary role in establishing Glasgow as an internationally recognised centre for contemporary culture. For decades, the building has nurtured artists, encouraged experimentation, supported new ideas and welcomed communities from across Scotland and beyond. Its value lies not only in its history, but in its continuing potential to inspire future generations.

Creative Scotland should honour that legacy by making a clear commitment that 350 Sauchiehall Street will continue to operate as a publicly owned, publicly accessible, multi-artform cultural venue, with artists, communities and public benefit at its heart.
Instead of selling the building, we call on Creative Scotland to work openly with the cultural sector and the wider public to identify a sustainable operator capable of reopening 350 Sauchiehall Street as a thriving cultural space.

This is about more than one building. It is about protecting Scotland's public cultural infrastructure and ensuring that decisions about nationally significant cultural assets are made transparently, accountably and in the public interest.

We call on Creative Scotland to:

-Undertake meaningful public consultation into the future of the building.
-Commit to keeping the building in public ownership.
-Ensure the building continues as an open, publicly accessible, multi-artform cultural venue.
-Work transparently with artists, cultural workers, communities and the wider public to shape its future.
