Save the Brighton Town Pool

Save the Brighton Town Pool
The Issue
(Please don't give money here - it only goes to change.org and doesn't actually help this cause at all!)
The town of Brighton, which has long prided itself on the services it offers its taxpayers, has fallen deeply behind other nearby communities.
One of the few resources Brighton residents of all ages have been able to enjoy is the outdoor pool behind Town Hall.
With no public notice or outreach for public input, supervisor Bill Moehle and the town board have unilaterally decided not to invest in needed upgrades for the town pool and instead to replace it with a splash pad that will be of use only to small children and their parents.
Outdoor swimming pools are an increasingly rare amenity in our community. The long-stalled community center planning will not result in any construction before the end of the decade, which is too long to wait.
We demand:
- A reopened public input process allowing users of the town pool to have their voices heard instead of ignored
- A public study of pool usage and a presentation of viable options for a renovated pool that can also include a splash pad component and greater accessibility for all in the community
- An opportunity to properly seek funding sources for better water recreation opportunities in Brighton
- A one-year reprieve in the closure of the pool to provide the opportunity to revisit the flawed, opaque decision-making process
- And overall improved communication between town leaders and the residents whose voices are being ignored.
