Save the Brick, Save Downtown’s Identity.

The Issue

We have recently learned that the City of Jacksonville has begun (or is planning) construction on Court Street that includes tearing up the iconic brick roadway in the heart of Downtown.

There has been no public announcement, no clear timeline, and no direct communication to the businesses that will be impacted the most.

Court Street is not just a road.

It is part of the identity of Downtown Jacksonville, and a major driver of foot traffic for the small businesses working every day to bring life back to this area.

Ripping it up without notice directly affects:

Local businesses and their ability to operate.
Customer access and downtown foot traffic.
Community events and economic activity.
The character and history of our downtown district.

We are not opposed to progress.

We are opposed to being left out of it.

We are asking the City of Jacksonville to immediately:

-Provide a clear project timeline and scope
-Explain the decision to remove the brick roadway
-Outline how businesses will be supported during construction
-Pause or reconsider removal of the brick until proper community input is gathered

Downtown Jacksonville is growing because of the people and businesses investing in it every day.

We deserve transparency, communication, and a seat at the table.

Do not make decisions about Downtown without Downtown.
