The Issue

In Roseisle Forest, Moray, the cherished bird hide, a source of tranquility and a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, faces destruction by Forestry and Land Scotland at the end of 2025. For many, this is not just a bird hide; it is a sanctuary that supports the wellbeing of both wildlife and people.

A regular visitor recently diagnosed with cancer finds solace and mental comfort in the serene environment of the hide. This refuge offers him a moment of peace, essential for his mental health. Another visitor, an octogenarian with no garden of his own, finds purpose and joy in feeding and observing the birds and red squirrels, a vital part of his day-to-day life. The bird hide is a critical contributor to the survival of these creatures, by maintaining their habitat and fostering biodiversity.

Destruction of this bird hide would not only threaten an essential sanctuary for numerous bird species and red squirrels but also remove a critical source of mental health support for visitors whose lives are deeply intertwined with nature.

Roseisle Forest's bird hide is more than just a structure; it nurtures wildlife and promotes ecological awareness and appreciation. It encourages human-nature interaction, fostering essential therapeutic experiences significant for human health and well-being, especially for those combating illnesses or seeking a reprieve from the pressures of life.

The hide is in a solid condition. We seek permission from Forestry and Land Scotland to make the small repairs or replacement needed to the walkway, so that it remains accessible to those of all abilities; and to stop the unnecessary destruction of the bird hide.

The site can serve as an educational platform for schools and community groups, raising awareness about wildlife conservation, and includes all those in the community who would seek and benefit from this connection with nature.

Join us in urging Forestry and Land Scotland to reconsider their decision. Support the preservation of the bird hide as a community asset that enhances lives and preserves biodiversity.

Please sign this petition to stop the destruction of this invaluable haven and ensure it remains a treasure for generations to come.
