My children are active participants in Cross Country, and the Beckley Stratton Cross Country Course is a place they consider their second home. It is not just personally significant to our family, the course also serves the community as home ground for the Beckley Stratton Middle School Cross Country Team. Cross country coaches, runners and spectators from all over West Virginia agree that the Beckley Stratton Cross Country Track is the crown jewel of Cross Country Courses.

Among its many positive features, it offers a unique experience for spectators who can enjoy the entire race from a singular vantage point. 

This beloved course is now under threat by prospective commercial and industrial expansions. It is crucial for our community to stand against this potential shift that could rob our children of an important healthy activity and negatively impact the charm and environment of Beckley. Statistics from the National Recreation and Park Association emphasize how preservation of public, outdoor spaces leads to healthier, happier communities.
We must ensure the continuity of the Beckley Stratton Cross Country Course in its existing location, not just for the current middle school athletes and the spectator community, but for future generations who will benefit from it.
