Thomas Patterson told those close to him that had he been a younger man when Lower Makefield Township officials sought to obtain his farm, he would have fought them. He and his wife had been subjected to uninvited contact from township officials imploring the elderly landowners to sell their farm to the township. The farm was NOT for sale. The township persisted and with a heavy heart the farmers agreed to a settlement. The township filed an Eminent Domain "Declaration of Taking" just 3 days before Mr. Patterson's 95th birthday, and just months after the farmers had enrolled their farm in the township's Agricultural Security District (a precursor to Agricultural Lands Preservation).
