"Save the Arts Sector from NAC Mismanagement"

"Save the Arts Sector from NAC Mismanagement"
The Issue
The National Arts Council (NAC) of South Africa is more than just an institution; it is a beacon of hope for artists and communities throughout the nation. The imperative is that funds are safe from mismanagement, processes are transparent and fair, and leadership is held accountable. Today, this assurance is at stake as allegations have surfaced surrounding the integrity and conduct of certain Council members and executives, casting a shadow over the trust that should be foundational.
The Honorable Minister, Gayton McKenzie, it is with this concern for transparency and accountability that we urgently request the removal of certain individuals named in the Public Protector's letter as a step towards restoring the honor and efficiency of the NAC. Specifically, we demand the removal of Council members: Princess Celenhle Dlamini, Bongani Tembe, and Stephanie De Silva. Their continued presence on the Council could undermine the reputation and effectiveness of the NAC, and by extension, the artistic community it is meant to support.
Additionally, we implore the Minister to suspend the former CEO, Julie Diphofa, and the interim CFO, Reshma Bhoola, pending a full forensic investigation at the NAC. It is only by transparently addressing these serious allegations with a thorough, unbiased investigation that confidence can be restored. The arts, central to our culture and identity, must operate in an environment of integrity and trust.
By taking these actions, the NAC can emerge either vindicated or corrected, but never doubted. We do not seek false punishment but demand clarity and justice. Too often, where there is smoke, there is fire. It is our collective responsibility to check, not for blame, but to ensure the NAC serves its true purpose without blemish.
Allow us to stand united in our call for accountability, accuracy, and action for the betterment of the NAC and the artists it serves. Let your voice be heard by signing this petition, demanding change and transparency at the National Arts Council of South Africa.
