The Issue

Living in the bustling city of Gurgaon, the glaring absence of nature's touch is all too evident for those of us who call this place home. The rapid urbanization has encroached upon precious green cover, and the Aravalli hills—the green lungs of our region—are under siege. This isn't just an environmental concern; it's a personal one for me and many others who yearn for the tranquility and balance that nature brings.

The Aravallis are among the oldest mountain ranges in the world and serve as a vital ecological bulwark against desertification. Their unique biodiversity, which includes a myriad of plant species and wildlife, provides both ecological balance and crucial ecosystem services like groundwater recharge and air purification. Yet, these hills are threatened by rampant real estate development, illegal mining, and indiscriminate urban sprawl.

According to a report by the Wildlife Institute of India, approximately 69% of the Aravalli range is lost, threatening not only the flora and fauna but also the quality of life of millions of people who depend on this natural reservoir. The degradation of the Aravallis exacerbates air pollution and heightens climate vulnerabilities, making Gurgaon and its surrounding regions more susceptible to disasters such as floods and heatwaves.

Our government must take immediate action to halt all destructive activities in the Aravalli region and strengthen conservation efforts. We need stricter enforcement of existing environmental laws and policies, increased funding for conservation initiatives, and the creation of awareness programs to educate the public about the importance of these hills.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for a greener, healthier future for Gurgaon and the preservation of our natural heritage. Stand with us to protect the Aravallis before it's too late. Please sign this petition to urge our leaders to take definitive action to save the Aravallis from further destruction.
