The Issue

Stop DENR-approved cutting — protect our environment, our heritage, and our future!

THE ISSUE: The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has approved the cutting of 192 trees in  The Provincial Capitol Pangasinan.

These trees are more than just wood and leaves — they are our natural shields against climate change, floods, and extreme heat. They provide clean air, shade, and habitats for wildlife.

Cutting them down without exhausting sustainable alternatives will have irreversible consequences for our community and future generations.

Why This Matters:

 1. Hotter Temperatures – Losing tree cover will worsen the heat island effect, making our province hotter and less livable.

2. Increased Flood Risk – Trees absorb rainwater; removing them will make our communities more vulnerable to flash floods and erosion.

3. Loss of Biodiversity – Many birds, insects, and small wildlife species depend on these trees for shelter and food.

4. Poorer Air Quality – Trees filter pollutants and produce oxygen, which we all need to stay healthy.

5. Right to a Balanced Ecology – Under the Philippine Constitution (Art. II, Sec. 16), we have the right to a balanced and healthful ecology.

Our Demands

We, the undersigned, urge DENR and our provincial government to:

1. Suspend the tree-cutting permit immediately.

2. Hold a public consultation so residents can be heard.

3. Explore alternatives, such as tree transplantation, road redesign, or a compensatory planting program.

4. Release all environmental impact assessments and project details to the public.

Together, We Can Make a Difference Development should never come at the expense of our environment and community’s well-being. Once these 192 trees are gone, they’re gone forever.
